Climate Cafe

Who is this for?

Is your body carrying anger, anxiety, and/or grief about climate change? If so, you’re not alone. Research shows a growing number of people worry about the long term shifts occurring in the Earth’s weather patterns, and yet…

many hold these feelings in, keeping them largely to themselves.

In addition, many are feeling the emotional weight of biodiversity loss and climate injustice, as well as war and authoritarianism, which have climate-related factors.

By talking about these challenging feelings in groups, we can experience shared vulnerability and meaning. We may also alleviate isolation, co-regulate our nervous systems, and open to new perspectives.

Climate-related feelings, however, are complex, and there are no guarantees or quick, easy solutions.

So, in the spirit of community, we invite you to participate in a climate cafe co-facilitated by the following members of the Climate Psychology Alliance: Sherylyn Pitt, MSW, LCSW, Stacy Grove, MDiv, and Kim Jordan, MA, ACC.

What’s a climate cafe?

  • It’s an intentional space to gather with others who have concerns around climate-related topics.

  • It’s a supportive space to slow down and let yourself feel whatever is evoked in you.

  • It’s a sharing space, where you can express your feelings if you feel moved to.

  • It’s a deep listening space where you can connect with others who share climate-related concerns.

Where & when will we meet?

We will meet in the Music Room in the Sanctuary Building at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Raleigh, located at 3313 Wade Avenue. Use the Wade Avenue entrance.

Is this location accessible?

Yes. The UU Raleigh is wheelchair accessible, with parking spots in the upper and lower lots, an elevator in the main building, and accessible bathrooms on all levels.
